Lefty wins on final putt at Colonial

Sinking what Mickelson calls one of his "probably top five" shots of his career, a 140-yard wedge from heavy rough that set up a a nine-foot birdie putt on the final hole to give him a one stroke win at the Crone Plaza Invitational. Lefty ended up with a 14-under 266, one better than Rod Pampling, who closed with a 68. Kudos to Lefty and hopefully he's getting his groove back so he can make a run at Daddy when he returns from his knee surgery. My questions is, where were all of the top players? Looking at the top 10 finishers, it reads like a "who's who" of the amateur circuit. Where did everyone go?? Tuning up for the US Open I suppose. Just the same it was a clutch win by Phill but can parlay this into a run at another major?

sunnysooner4 - sorry, but if phil continues to drive the ball like he has been, he will not win this years us open, or any us open. Torrey is 700-800 yards longer than colonial. There will be no hit driver in the 6 inch rough and hit wedge to the green. It will be pich out and try to save par from 100 yards. He is driving worse than Tiger this year and that will not hold up. sorry guys, if he hits it like he did this week he'll struggle to be in contention.

Tx1 - Good take smacchat and Mickelson is a great player, but he has got to find a tee shot he can go to under pressure. Tiger has the stinger. Jack had the power fade. Evidently, Butch Harmon has done little to help Phil in that area.

fuse man - If four 2nd place finishes are any indication, Phil's "inaccuracy" has presented less of a problem @ the Open than for most others not named Tiger. What everyone is missing is Phil's latest equipment change- he had Callaway make him a "Hi-tech" version of his old 8802 Wilson putter that he used in H.S. & college & when he first came on tour. He was Crenshaw like with it & never should have changed. Look out now that he has it back,21st century style!

espnmatt07 - Ok you all have to realize that fill is striking the ball with his irons really good, his putting is coming around and yes he needs a go to shot with his driver under pressure. But he has finished second at the open five times its redicoulous. The 06 open was his driver but the 04 or whatever was his three put from five feet. and Also phil is driving the ball much better, the fairways at colonial are tight and they turn from right to left alot. Torrey is straighter and his driving will only get better!!

Carmen- Jack Nicklaus was the greatest driver of the golf ball in majors of all time. Why, because he knew his ball was not going left. Even Tiger has no clue with the driver. That is why when it comes to major champions, Jack would still give Tiger all he could handle.

The only reason Lefty won is because Tiger and the other top 10 players sat it out! He's good but he's not world class that's why he hasn't sniffed the leader board when the competition is there. He will be exposed in the US open. Tiger may not win because of the layoff but he'll still beat Phil.

dougieboy216 - Tiger is smart, this injury and the rehabing of it is a long term investment. sure he wants to play in the Memorial, who wouldn't its a wonderful tournament. But if resting allows him to play The British and the PGA at 100%...its a good play.

leftycamp -

Tiger will not be the same once he comes back, he will need at least two tournaments before he returns to from, IF he ever does. Remember golf is unlike any other sport in that way, the smallest change, tweak, pain, or movement will throw off your swing and you may not find out what it is for quite some time. Last time this happened to Tiger he missed the cut. I would not bet on him in the US Open. Watch out for Phil!!

Ccaine23 - I can't say I am surprised because I didn't think he was going to be ready to play by next week but I'm still bummed that I won't be able to see him play until the U.S. Open.
